Duties and responsibilities: Sports medicine primary care physicians treat anyone who is physically active help them improve performance, enhance overall health, prevent injury and maintain their physical activity throughout their lives. Some work with professional and amateur sports teams.
Salary: $202,600
Education: While sports medicine is a recognized subspecialty, physicians can not obtain primary board certification in primary care sports medicine. You must first complete three years of residency training in a recognized specialty, such as family medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine or pediatrics.
Demand: Employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 14 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The growing and aging population is expected to drive overall growth in the demand for medical services as consumers continue to seek high levels of care using the latest technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies.
