I think this statement means that if you want to be free and independant then you need to always do the right thing 24/7.This statement means that obviously independence exists when you are doing things right or you are taking good decisions, being independent makes things easier and in that you can approve doing good things. Independent is a word that identifies when you are doing well, that gives you success and freedom, why freedom ?, because once you have finished what you did you can take your freedom doing other things or rest.
